Happy New Year! I hope wherever you are, you had a fun evening celebrating. I’m in Berlin and looking forward to four days of exploring (and partying) in this amazing city.
After my awesome year of travel in 2014, it’s now time to look forward to my travel plans and wish-list for 2015. With all the travel blogs I read and my friends’ many adventures, it’s not hard to get inspiration for a list a mile long! But the trip that I’m most excited about in 2015 is…
New Zealand
Yep, in March I’m heading home for a visit of over two weeks! It will have been almost two years since I left and I’m definitely started to feel home-sick the last few months, particularly as the London winter nights draw in. Although I know I’m perfectly guilty of this when the situation is reversed, my friends’ pictures of delicious barbeques, long beach walks, and lazy sunny days have me craving home. I’m timing my visit with one of my best friend’s weddings so I’m super-excited to celebrate with her and her hubby-to-be! As well there’ll be lots of family time, cuddles with our family dog, visiting friends all over town, and trying to eat as much delicious fresh sushi and seafood as I can get my hands on in two weeks. Can’t wait!
Stockholm
Turkey
My trip in April 2014 was one of my top highlights of the year, so I won’t need much coaxing to return. There are plans afoot for a Medsailors Turkey trip after the success of our week sailing Greece, and if we could get most of the girls back on the boat it would be a total treat. I also was very excited to win Go to Turkey UK’s Top Travel Blogger prize in their recent awards, meaning I have a week in the beautiful region of Dalaman to look forward to.
Amsterdam
The last of the big three (Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam) that prior to moving to London I thought would be at the top of my flight-booking list. While I’m happy to say I haven’t exactly suffered with choices of places like Budapest, Copenhagen or Florence instead, I really can’t wait to see Amsterdam for myself. Timing it for the tulips or King’s Day celebration would be great!
The Peaks District and the Lakes District
Some UK choices now – while I journeyed to Bath, Brighton, and Oxford in 2014, I haven’t spent as much time as I’d like appreciating the UK countryside. I’d like to see the beauty of these areas for myself and go on some summer hikes. Stops for afternoon tea or pints in countryside pubs would be mandatory, of course.
Cornwall
Another UK choice, albeit one which seems to have some logistical issues in terms of transporting myself there. However, once I’ve worked those out, I’m sure I’ll enjoy surfing and hiking Cornwall’s gorgeous coastline.
Tallinn
Possibly my most unusual destination, there’s something about Tallinn in Estonia that has long fascinated me. I’d love to stroll its cobblestone streets, admire its colourful architecture and sample Baltic culture.
Madrid and /or San Sebastian
More Spanish food please… maybe minus the aggressive crustacean!
I’ve been told much about Madrid’s beautiful architecture, history, and great food – now I think it’s time to see it for myself. After two trips to Barcelona in 2014 I feel like I need to branch out in my Spanish cities. For a foodie like myself, San Sebastian is another obvious choice – plus it has the lure of the beach. In an ideal world I’d get to both, but we will see!
