Happy New Year! 2015 has been an incredible whirlwind of adventures, and I’ve finished it by seeing in the New Year in one of my favourite places in the world – New Zealand. You can check out my favourite 2015 travel adventures here. I’ll be back to London in early February and looking to plan lots of exciting new travels – but where to go?! Here’s my travel wish list for 2016 – what’s on yours?
Portugal
Sun-soaked villages, gorgeous architecture and lots of port are calling my name back to Portugal. My trip to Lisbon and Sintra gave me a taster of this beautiful country – now I want to return! I definitely want to visit Porto, but I’d also love to do a road-trip along the coast. The most out-there option would be a surfing and yoga camp, but I may just have to make this happen!
Cornwall
It made it on to my 2015 Travel Wish List but unfortunately I didn’t make it there – hopefully 2016 will be a year in which I manage yet more UK travels. Cornwall seems like a different world and I’d love to experience its pristine beaches and windswept cliffs.
New York
It seems crazy to some, but I have never visited any of the Americas – they were always so far from New Zealand and on my longer holidays I was pulled more to the crazy amazingness of South-East Asia. But with New York just a “short” hop from London, it’s time to answer the call of the Big Apple this year!
Scotland
I saw in 2014 at Hogmanay in Edinburgh and got back to nature in the Highlands in 2015, but still Scotland is pulling me back for more. I’d love to climb Ben Nevis, admire the Isle of Skye, and trace my ancestors in the far North – there’s just so much to see!
Cinque Terre
Gorgeously-hued buildings, perched above an azure sea touched by golden sunshine – that’s what dreams are made of. And hopefully that’s precisely what I’ll get when I hike the villages of the Cinque Terre in Italy! This has been at the top of my list for a couple of years now so hopefully I can make the dream a reality in 2016.
Malta
I’ve read countless posts about Malta’s incredible history, architecture and food – now it’s time to see it all for myself! I’m thinking of making this one a truly active adventure and combining it with the Gozo Half Marathon held at the end of April – combining a running achievement with a holiday sounds like it could be a winner!
