Adventures were more in quality than quantity in Winter 2021. This was thanks first to saving our leave in the continuing hope that we would get to Sydney at some point to see family. Then Auckland got locked down again, and it ended up being the longest, toughest one in NZ. But there was still some fun, and the big adventure of buying a house!
My favourite type of winter day in Auckland – crisp and clear. Perfect for a lunchtime walk around Victoria Park!
Pip, Candice and I love any excuse for a costume – see each year at Splore! When the guys’ football club had a Euros night we crafted these spaghetti costumes. All the loose “spaghetti” pieces were super fun to dance in.
We were so SO excited to finally buy a house. The Auckland property market (and all of NZ) is crazy and home ownership is sadly out of reach for so many. But the move to Beach Haven meant my days of morning walks along Takapuna Beach were numbered, so I tried to make the most of them, helped by gorgeous days like this one.
And to be fair, the view of the sunset from our deck is pretty great.
And we’re very fortunate in having access to the water a short walk away still.
Something a bit different – Candice and I had delicious cakes at the Kumeu Carriages Cafe in a vintage railway car!
And then, back into lockdown… and NZ’s version of a lockdown, which can be very strict. Staying at home, no businesses open except for essential services, no contact with anyone outside your household “bubble”… It was long, it was tough, and it definitely limited my adventures for the rest of winter! One of the few upsides from covid has been my relearning some basic sewing skills, which has resulted in a lot of mask making.
But to finish on a golden note – I saw a few gorgeous sunrises on my neighbourhood walks to bring a bit of sun to those winter lockdown days!
