Spring 2021 in Auckland meant… yes, another lockdown for the city. We had another five weeks in strict lockdown, which is apparently amongst the toughest in the world. Not much fun! Fortunately we were living in our new house and able to get out to exercise, and slowly things opened up so that we could get out, see friends, and even start the adventures again.
When this kind of spot is in the neighbourhood, then lockdown doesn’t seem quite so bad.
Of course there was the obligatory lockdown baking – these cinnamon scrolls disappeared pretty quickly!
I was training for a half marathon (which later got postponed, thanks Covid!) which did mean I could justify longer runs in the spring sunshine as my daily exercise. This beautiful spot in Birkenhead was almost as close as I got to work and the central city for a couple of months!
The joyous day we were allowed back to the beach – safely distanced, of course.
Queuing for my Covid jab. It looks packed but it moved pretty fast!
Another gorgeous spring sunrise for my morning exercise.
A warm welcome back to the farm from my parents the goat kids! It was so good to be able to visit everyone again.
Yep, definitely worse places to be locked down – I am very happy with our move to Beach Haven!
I finished off spring by starting what would turn out to be a new favourite tradition. A walk around the Parnell Rose Gardens and Judges Bay, with my friends Gin and Emma. It’s such a gorgeous spot, both down by the water and up amongst the roses!

What are you looking forward to most about the new season where you are? For me, autumn is usually a less fun one – but with two good friends’ weddings within six weeks, it’s going to be so exciting!
