Sometimes in winter all I want to do is curl up in bed and listen to the rain. But then I’ll hear about an awesome event like the Hawker House Street Feast and realise that there are much more exciting things to be doing – and my belly would thank me for it!
Hawker House aims to recreate “the infamous hawker centres of Singapore, with added booze, tunes and vibe.” It’s run for 10 weeks at a time, and features ten food trucks, four bars and a DJ in a big warehouse set-up near Hackney.
Undoubtedly the hardest part of my Hawker House experience was deciding what I wanted to eat – my FOMO is tripled in food situations! Luckily my friends were happy to share, so I tried delicious gyoza and edamame from Rainbo, before settling on an amazing chorizo wrap from French & Grace, with a side of the world’s best sweet potato fries from BBQ Lab. I don’t know what their well-named Awesome Sauce contains, but the fries tasted like bacon and melted in my mouth – delicious! An icy margarita was the perfect accompaniment.
Even though it made choices tricky, I loved the variety of food available at Hawker House – so much goodness. We went earlyish on a Friday evening, around 7pm, and so the wait times were pretty quick which was excellent when our mouths were watering!
If you’d like to get in and try some of this amazingness, you’d better be quick – this run of Hawker House finishes next weekend on 22 March. If you do miss it, or can’t be sated by just one visit, you can also check out where Street Feast will be next here.
