I’ll jump at any chance to get out in this beautiful adopted city of mine, so the London Instagram Walk with GiffGaff and Best LDN Walks was perfect for me! On Wednesday night I met up with a bunch of other enthusiastic bloggers to be guided by the fabulous Charlotte around some of Southbank and Westminster’s most photogenic spots.

Charlotte leading a cheer for the builders of Waterloo Bridge
Not only did she show us some of the hidden views and best photography angles along our walk, Charlotte had hundreds of fascinating facts at her fingertips. Did you know that Waterloo Bridge was built by women during World War Two? Or that there are otters living down the river by Battersea Power Station?
Onto the Southbank, where Phil from Photography Made Simple came into his own, leaping onto a bench to point out how the camera only has one eye, so we should watch out for blending of similar colours. Several of us wandered round for a few minutes after with one eye closed to better frame a photograph!
Our next stop was the Leake Street or Banksy Tunnel, made famous by the man of mystery when he took over the street in 2008 for a three day graffiti fest. After people continued adding their own graffiti to the tunnel, he purchased it so that no-one could be arrested, and we had great fun adding our own tags and scribbles to the well-covered walls.
We wandered on towards Westminster and finished up at Charing Cross – the very centre of London! I had a fabulous time on the walk and would definitely recommend it for anyone who’d like to learn a bit more about this wonderful city and get some quirky viewpoints in the area.
How many bloggers can we fit in a phone box?!
Time for a selfie with Paddington!
