I love my seasonal #LondonLists – always inspiration for an activity and a reminder of the mindblowing scope of fun to be had in (or near) this great capital. This year, summer was a little slow to get going, but when it finally arrived, it was a mix of gorgeous sunshine, great eats and a few drinks in beer gardens, rooftops and parks – ideal! But how did I do on the all-important London Summer 2016 Hot List?!
1. The Udderbelly Festival
I laughed myself silly at Andy Zaltzman’s Political Animals, in the shadow of the big purple cow. I also managed to stop by another couple of times, just for the great drinks and food on offer. Comedic achievement unlocked!
2. Explore the Barbican (and Conservatory)
I’ve still got to blog about the great tour I took around the Barbican with Natalie – it was a fascinating couple of hours learning about Brutalism, life in the Barbican estate and culture in the centre of the city. Highly recommended!
3. Gaze on the glories of a stately home
Not ticked off this time round… but I feel like this one is ideal for the next Winter Cool List anyway!
4. Drink in a former loo
These quirky bars are still going strong in London, so it doesn’t matter that I didn’t get there this London summer. Again, I think this is highly suitable for my Winter List.
5. Hike the Seven Sisters
What an incredible day – definitely one of my highlights of the summer. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the white cliffs were just beautiful against the blue sea and sky. Fresh salty air in my lungs, golden sun on my body – I was in heaven. Blog post coming soon!
6. Primrose Hill Market and Picnic
I ran up the hill a couple of times this summer (cue extremely heavy breathing and an urgent need to stop and admire the view) but didn’t make it to the market. Maybe next year!
7. Morning Yoga with a Difference
I ticked this one off in style with the lovely Juliet at Secret Yoga Club. A fantastic yoga session, in the sunshine, on a rooftop in Dalston – so great!
8. A Walking Tour
I did it! I finally did it! A walking tour had made the list every time so far, and I finally ticked this one off, joining a ghostly walking tour in York. It was so great, it made my list of 5 Awesome Things to Do in York.
9. Model Market
I didn’t make it all the way to Tooting, but I did hit up Street Feast in Dalston for one final munch before it closed down for good. Delicious street food is always a win in my book!
10. Tour Buckingham Palace
I had a Royally Good Day Out at Buckingham Palace – exploring the Royal Mews, the State Rooms and the amazing ‘Fashioning A Reign’ exhibition of the Queen’s fashions. It was probably the most touristy thing I’ve done this year, but it was fascinating and a lot of fun!
So, 6 out of 10 achieved…. not bad at all! But what else will I line up for this winter’s cool list? Any suggestions? Stay tuned!
