Judging from the #TravelLinkup posts so far it seems I’m not alone in having few travel plans set in stone for this year – but how exciting is that? 2018 may be almost a blank page, but I look forward to filling it with as many colourful adventures as I did 2017. I may have the constraints of limited leave and full-time work to deal with, but that’s not going to stop me dreaming big – here’s my wishlist for 2018!
Scotland
The Highlands are calling me – and I’d love to explore further afield than I managed on my fantastic 3 Day Road Trip a couple of years ago. The big wish is to make it to the beautiful Isle of Skye – fingers crossed!
Italy
I think the Cinque Terre may have made it on to every list since I started writing these… hopefully 2018 is the year! I’d love to do it justice with three or four days (if I’m really dreaming big, a whole week!) of hiking between the beautiful villages – and then eating my bodyweight in gelato and pasta. I’d also love to visit the intriguing city-state of San Marino, and explore the north including Lake Como.
Sailing Away
This is one that should definitely come to fruition – sailing with Medsailors again, because why mess with perfection?! This time, I’m looking to check out the beautiful azure waters of Croatia.
UK Explorations
As well as more Scotland, I’d like to say I’ve made the most of my own backyard this year by spending more time in the north, where I’ve barely scratched the surface – the Lakes and Peaks Districts look like ideal mini-breaks to me. I’d also love to continue the seaside adventures after a lovely escape to Whitstable last year. And I need to book in another half-marathon, which would be a great excuse to get out into the English countryside.
The Baltics
Another area that always makes it onto my wishlist – I’m fascinated by the great things I hear about the food, culture and history to be explored.
Southern France
Aside from a super-fun 36 Hours in Lyon and a weekend in Champagne, I’ve not spent much time in France aside from Paris. My sister Zoe and her boyfriend are heading to Lyon for their final semester of study so I look forward to revisiting it with them, but I’d also love to visit Bordeaux, Toulouse and Aix-en-Provence, to name just a few!
That should keep me busy – and I can’t wait to see what unexpected adventures the year holds. What’s on your travel wishlist for 2018?
