Back to London, but fortunately still with a reason to celebrate as it was Kate’s birthday! As it was the first one over here, we decided we had to do something quintessentially English – and what could be a better English celebration than a high tea? Well, it turns out adding French champagne makes it pretty awesome!
We chose the Dukes Hotel on a recommendation I’d read on The Londoner and absolutely loved it. As it was a Friday afternoon we had our pick of spots, and chose a cushy corner. We were quickly brought our delicious bubbles, and settled in for a lovely afternoon of nibbly bits. They did a fantastic job of catering for my dairy-free requirements – I always benefit at high teas as I seem to get just as much as the shared plates!
My favourite was definitely the amazing Pimms sorbet above, which tasted exactly like Pimms Cup – delicious!
We particularly liked the little touches, like extra bubbles when the sandwiches took longer than expected, and the Happy Birthday message for Kate. I would definitely recommend this for a more intimate high tea experience than the big hotels – it was a lot of fun, and might just be the start of a new tradition!
