A haunting ululating call floating through the breeze. The fresh taste of salt spray against my lips. Golden sunshine on my skin. Brilliant blue and white houses against a backdrop of green and ochre. I came to Marmaris in Turkey hoping for some sunshine and a respite from London’s chilly autumn. What I found was a land rich in history and natural beauty, welcoming smiles and groaning tables of delicious food. I can’t wait to go back for more!
I am unashamedly a sunshine lover. Give me beaches over slopes, sunset over polar night, palm trees over icicles any day. Unfortunately, all these things are in rather short supply in the UK in November. I went to Marmaris, in the south-east of Turkey, hoping for a bit of relaxation and Vitamin D. My first day in Marmaris has felt like a dream. We flew in late from London to Dalaman and were driven through windy roads, occasional snatches of ululating music drifting in on a breeze. Emma and I tumbled into bed before waking to brilliant sunshine today and stepping onto our wide balcony to admire the sunrise reflecting off the bay before us. We explored the castle and its many precious artifacts, before heading out onto the bay itself to view Marmaris from the sea. It is stunning! Later we marvelled at crystal clear waters in a nearby river, before having every worry and stress sponged, pummelled and massaged out of us in a Turkish hammam. Bliss!
