Being in sight of the sea is my happy place. For almost 10 years I lived and worked just minutes from the ocean, and its ebb and flow never failed to soothe. While I’m lucky to still be near the water in London, just a couple of minutes from the Thames… it’s not quite the same! On a sunny day just after Christmas I headed out to Leigh-On-Sea with the ladies for a restorative stroll along the seaside.
Leigh-on-Sea is located at the mouth of the River Thames and is part of Essex – something I found quite exciting as I hadn’t been to any part of that fair county before… although sadly we didn’t see too many TOWIE types.
The beautiful St Clement’s Church
Back home in New Zealand, award-winning beaches don’t generally end in mudflats… but the sand was lovely!

Of course when you’re by the sea, there’s only one possible lunch option – fish and chips! We devoured these ENORMOUS plates at The Peterboat which was great – not just generous portions but also a fantastic location overlooking the estuary and a great atmosphere.
Super-cute little house!

Where’s your happy place – by the sea, up a mountain or somewhere else?
