Remember when we went out to places and people cooked for us?! Delicious Tom Yum soup at Tok Tok Takapuna
While many places around the world were already being hit hard by Covid-19, March is the month when things really changed in New Zealand. We went from dining out and swimming with friends to locked down in our “bubble” with only essential trips allowed in the space of a couple of weeks. I’m incredibly lucky to be able to work comfortably from home, with the beach in range for my daily runs and walks. But it’s still a weird, strange and stressful time! Here’s how the transition of March went for me…
Out for a run around Auckland’s Eastern Bays when I thought I’d be running a half-marathon in April…
A sunny Saturday at the beach with friends
And then boom. A terrible photo, but the last time I caught the bus to work in March, or caught the bus anywhere, or went over the Harbour Bridge..
Hone would like to check if you’re ok.
I made sure to go visit my parents (always keeping 2m or more from them!) as I suspected it would be the last time for a while I’d be allowed to drive the 45 mins to their farm
Lockdown day 1: my morning coffee looks a bit different now…
The first few days of lockdown felt like summer was still with us!
My sunrise runs and ability to look out to sea are keeping me sane.
I haven’t been publishing normal travel posts, although I’m hoping to catch up on some of last year’s adventures. It feels weird to encourage people to visit the places I’ve loved so much when we’re not allowed to travel anywhere. For myself, I alternate between getting lost in other people’s travels, and being unable to read anything that reminds me I won’t be able to adventure overseas anytime soon. It’s just a whole lot.
I’m incredibly grateful to live in New Zealand, where strong leadership and strict rules have led to very few cases and deaths, even if it does mean those adventures are limited for now. Hoping everyone who reads is safe and well, and a million thank yous to all the essential workers – our heroes.
How are you doing? What does life look like for you at the moment?
