November felt like a headlong rush towards summer. It’s my birthday month, which is always exciting, and we also had a trip away – a semi-rarity in 2020!
When I thought about what I wanted to do for my birthday, a trip away was top of the list. We had a couple of nervy moments with a few positive Covid tests in Auckland the days beforehand, but luckily no travel restrictions eventuated and we were able to fly down to Christchurch. Long-time blog readers may recognise Kate, Alex and Nicole – former London and travel buddies and now Christchurch residents. Luckily our friend Gin could also make the trip, so it was an awesome long weekend of catching up!
My Dad was invited to the first cricket game of the summer at Eden Park and kindly brought me along. It was a sunset game, and the crowds kept filing in as people finished work – it’s such a 2020 novelty and so wonderful that we are able to stage major sports here in NZ!
If November was a head-long dash to summer, now we’re well and truly here. I’m almost finished with work, planning our Christmas Day menu, and looking forward to a few weeks off. We’ve got beach days, a New Year’s Eve festival and a holiday up north to look forward to! I’m very much looking forward to some relaxation after what has been, for everyone, a very tough year. And I’m thinking of all those with tough restrictions still, particularly those who aren’t able to see friends and family at Christmas. Much love to you all and kia kaha – stay strong!
How are you doing at this end of 2020?
