The Heathrow Injection is legend among Kiwis who move to London… that extra 5kgs formed from largely social ciders, late night kebabs, and pub lunches. Through a combination of walking everywhere and it being summer, I’d managed to mostly avoid it… until we visited Borough Market two weekends in a row. My friend Gin and I managed to scientifically prove that our eyes were far, far larger than our stomachs, but it was hardly our fault. Have a look at all this goodness that’s on offer – every week!

And the crowds begin…

Taste-testing is a HUGE part of Borough Market – yum!

We do indeed love veg

Mmmm mushrooms!

Freaky fish and friend
The range of edibles and drinkables on offer at Borough Market is outstanding – just about anything you can think of, with lots of taste-testing to be done. The markets are hugely popular so you do need to be patient, but it’s well worth braving the crowds to nab that delicious chorizo, smoothie, scotch egg or loaf!

Accurate.

Delicious spicy cashews

Bread heaven

Amazing focaccia with basil and tomato

The cops know all about the BEST pulled pork baps
We came back the week after most of these photos were taken and I tried the pulled pork bap then… it was so delicious that although I fully intended to take photos of it, it was just toooo good and disappeared! They are definitely a must-try at the Market.

SO happy to find amazing dairy-free carrot cake

And Gin found the perfect mini tiramisu cupcake to top it off!
After all that indulgence a walk was definitely in order. There is lots to see near the market, from Southwark Cathedral to the Golden Hinde and down to the Oxo Tower.

Turns out the pedal-pubs aren’t only popular in Budapest!

The Golden Hinde II, a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship
As we walked along the river we spotted a number of crazy boatmen and women charging up the Thames. We later discovered this was the Thames Great River Race. The Race is now part of the Thames River Festival, and sees rowers compete over 21 miles from London Docklands to Richmond. They were certainly doing it tough in the chop – very impressive!
We finished up at Oxo Park where there were more Thames Festival antics, and watched the Latin dancers lead the crowd in an arm-waving, hip-shaking extravaganza – too fun!
