Matamanoa means eye of the strong wind, but I was lucky enough to experience nothing but calm breezes and beautiful sunshine during my stay there in early 2007. It was my first visit to Fiji, which is just a short hop (well, three hours) from New Zealand, and the perfect place to experience the Pacific Island mix of sunshine, beautiful waters and delicious food.
Matanamoa is a gorgeous wee island in the Mamanuca group near Denarau. It’s so small that you can kayak round it, or climb to the top of it, in less than half an hour. There’s not much to do but swim, snorkel, and enjoy the idyllic conditions – the perfect island holiday!
