I’m highly curious by nature, and when I walked past a fish spa in Athens, I knew I had to give it a try. More commonly seen in South-East Asia, this beauty treatment with a difference involves having little fishies nibble on your feet to get rid of the dead skin. We tried the introductory treatment at Dr Fish, which was 10 minutes – more than enough for some of the girls! For myself, I didn’t mind it, although it was VERY tickly and quite a strange sensation.
Nervously waiting our instruction to go
My three stages of my first fish spa experience went a little something like this: (1) OMG what the heck is this?! (2) HEHEHE so tickly!! (3) Wow, these guys are really going to town!
SO. WEIRD.
After that “pampering” experience, we spruced ourselves up and headed for the rooftops of Athens to enjoy the sunset. The cocktail bar at A for Athens came highly recommended and although they said they were fully booked, we tried our luck anyway as they were on the way to our next option. We were so happy we did, as a table came available just as we arrived – with the most perfect view!
We were SO lucky to witness this most gorgeous sight – the sun slowly setting and tinting the Acropolis beautiful shades of yellow, orange and pink. We toasted it with some of the delicious cocktails served by the bar, including this potent turquoise concoction.
Monastiraki Square filled up below us, as locals and tourists alike took advantage of the cooler temperatures to wander, have a beer, or throw down some sweet dance moves.
Toasting Athens
… and we love Athens!
If you get the chance while in Athens, make sure to watch the sunset from a rooftop or hill if you can – it was the most magical experience!
