I’ve visited Sydney a few times as an adult, and this trip was all about catching up with Joe’s family, and seeing Sydney through their locals’ eyes. Which meant great cafes and beaches, just what I like!
Travel Throwback Thursday – Sydney Opera House
The views from the Sydney Harbour Bridge are absolutely magnificent. Many visitors to the city choose to do a bridge climb to enjoy them, but if you’re not sure about being strapped into a jumpsuit and harness, or you want to take some photographs as well, then head to the south-east pylon of the bridge. For a much lower cost (although a few flights of stairs are involved), you can savour stunning panoramas like the one I took above for as long as you like.
I’ve visited Sydney four times in recent years, as it’s just a short hop over the Tasman from Auckland. I love the Sydney Opera House’s iconic quirky design, and I also love Sydney’s many green spaces and beautiful bays – such an awesome city!

Two Feet in Glebe
The beautiful suburb of Glebe was my home for my five days in Sydney. Previously I’d only stayed in Sydney’s CBD and in Darling Harbour, so Glebe was a welcome change, home to many stunning buildings, quirky cafes, and a beautiful park along the water’s edge. What I liked most was how relaxed it felt, while still being quite close to the city.
Jubilee Park follows the curve of Rozelle Bay and then leads onto a well-maintained pathway to Blackwattle Bay and on to the city. I loved the view, which looked over to Anzac Bridge and the Harbour Bridge.
The Glebe Saturday markets were full of quirky stalls and even quirkier characters, like this bluegrass band who were entertaining the crowds.
I went for a wander around the neighbourhood and stumbled upon the Glebe Town Hall – not too sure who the lucky birthday kid was!
I stayed at the Glebe YHA, which would have been a pretty standard backpackers except for their awesome rooftop terrace with its views towards the city and all the sunshine – amazing.
Coogee to Bondi
I decided to kick off my first full day in Sydney by heading to the coast to do the Coogee to Bondi walk. I’d heard that it was a must-do and now I completely agree.
It was a beautiful day and already warm when I arrived at the gorgeous white sands of Coogee. Fortified by a coffee, I headed to the cliffs to begin. The walk takes in a number of stunning bays and headlands over six kilometres, and I loved how around each corner there was a different view, culminating in the long curve of Bondi.
I took my time rambling along, soaking in the vistas, and enjoying the sunshine. I was impressed by how well-developed and maintained the path was. There were plenty of people making the most of this gorgeous day.
It’s hard to pick a highlight of the walk, but the crystal-clear blue waters were amazing, particularly in Gordon’s Bay where they met the steep ochre cliffs. Further along, I was stunned by Waverley Cemetery, which has to be one of the most spectacularly-sited cemeteries anywhere.
Once I made it to Bondi I grabbed a yummy sandwich from a local store and enjoyed it on the almost-empty sands.
If you’re in Sydney, definitely make time to do this walk for a different perspective on the city, and some amazing views.
